On Tuesday Chairman Stewart said bringing down monuments to slavery and the Confederacy was an example that "ISIS has won" and that "nothing is worse than a Yankee telling a Southerner that his monuments don't matter" - FROM A GUY FROM MINNESOTA!

Corey's latest divisive and hateful comment attracted national media attention - but Chairman Stewart won't back down.

Sign our petition today to tell Chairman Stewart that hate has no place in Prince William County and that there are plenty of things worse than removing monuments to the Confederacy.

If you stamp out confederate monuments citizens will forget how bad the civil war was (600,000 lives lost in battle and nearly as many lost in prison camps) and how far spread the violence was. However, that is different from waiving the confederate flag at political gatherings or on public property. The flag deserves space in a display case or at a monument at a historical site specifically designed to document our history. If a state chooses to have a monument about the civil war on its capitol grounds then the flag should be contained in a display case. The confederate flag should never be flown above the American flag which is what South Carolina did when they lowered the American flag at half mast after the mass shooting at A.M.E. Church in Charleston but kept the confederate flag, which was flying on the same flag pole, at full mast. I’m not black but when I saw that it was like someone was saying ha, ha, we won to the blacks after the mass shooting. I’m sure others picked up on that feeling as well which is why that confederate flag being flown over the American flag ignited the whole debate about civil war monuments.

I’m not bothered by citizens choosing to display the confederate flag out of southern pride or to express they believe in States Rights. That being said, it should never be used to intimidate others. I have seen it used to express dominance but rarely so I view those folks as a harmless minority living in their own little world on the far right. If the flag waiving is accompanied by harsh talk, like that used by Dylann Roof, then citizens should take time to contact law enforcement so they can determine if they are dealing with someone who has issues that could result in violence towards others.

Corey Stuart paid for a private plane to fly an ad calling on folks to vote for him at a state-wide political function. The plane also displayed a confederate flag with his advertisement. Flying the Confederate flag OVER the American flag on a public building, at a political function when you are running for office is inappropriate, or at polling locations is inappropriate.

Corey Stewart’s rhetoric and decade-long crusade against immigrants and communities of color have made Prince William County notorious throughout the commonwealth and the country. Only Bob Marshall manages to rival his infamy, so we find ourselves in a race to the bottom between the two of them.

Our leaders should be models who we aspire to be; challenging us to take on qualities of our best selves. In Trumpian fashion, Stewart draws out the basest of us; appealing to the type of fear, hatred and lack of self-reflection which lurks on the fringes of our communities. It empowers those who should not be empowered, and threatens the safety of the most vulnerable.

    It needs to stop.

Ridiculous. Just as ridiculous as Nevadans flying this gross flag when it

Symbolizes nothing for the west coast. It symbolizes nothing but hate. Just stop. As a former HOP, I implore you to stop the hateful rhetoric now!

We can remember the history of the Confederacy without celebrating it. That is what Museums are for.

Corey Stewart has dedicated his gubernatorial campaign to two issues: saving statues of a bygone era and deporting every immigrant. It is unfortunate that his campaign is reflecting poorly on the County that he is supposed to represent. Even his peers on the Board of County Supervisors have turned their backs on him. Corey Stewart needs to realize that he is not doing Prince William County nor Virginia any favors by continuing his disgraceful campaign.
